Member Jean Smith wins Regional Contest | |
Jean Smith Wins "Winter Miniatures" Show at the CAC Gallery of the Arts Cosmic Cow Society member Jean Smith recently tied for first place in the "Winter Miniatures" art show sponsored by the Community Arts Cafe's Gallery of the Arts in downtown Winston-Salem. Her "Pixie" tied for Best in Show. The reception for the show was held January 14 at the gallery on 4th Street and was well-attended. Jean Smith creates stunning portraits in a variety of styles, bringing her subject alive on campus. She is also available for commissions. A painting of Jean's was the very first work sold at the Gallery of the Arts when it opened in October 2009. Jean was also the Featured Artist of the month at the Gallery of the Arts for March 2010. |

Cosmic Cow Society Hosts Show to Benefit AutismThis art show will feature the work of the 15 member artists of the Cosmic Cow Society. 20% of the monies raised go to the Autism Society of Guilford County chapter. If you don't buy the original affordable art, please make a donation. The evening will include food, wine, and entertainment. A silent auction will be hosted for certain donated items from the arts group, of which 100% will go to the charity. The Cosmic Cow Society will hold an Art Talk event entitled "Finding a Voice: The Role of the Arts in Personal Expression." The panel discussion will feature guest speaker David Hammond of Guilford College and Cosmic Cow Society members Cass Catlett and Scott Plaster. The event will be hosted at the Multipurpose Room at the Community Center on Friday, March 27 at 7pm. The event is free and open to the public.

In a day when our community is bemoaning the effect of the economy on the local art market, one local arts organization is implementing an innovative approach to connect with the community and public. The Cosmic Cow Society is launching an "Art on Loan" program that will allow local businesses to host the best work of its member artists in its public spaces. The program is free -- free to the business, free to the artist, and free to the public...

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but that concept could not apply more than in the collage "stories" of Perry Boswell. These unique collages of Davidson County native and teacher are part antique, part history, part memorabilia, and part artistic creation. Boswell will be discussing his work at the Cosmic Cow Society's first "Art Talk" in downtown Greensboro on February 13 and will be featured in a one-man show at Asheboro's Circa Gallery beginning February 27...
