After 42 years as a Cartographer I retired and moved from California to Graham, NC. Once settled in with my 2 dogs I enrolled at ACC to fulfill a dream of becoming an artist. It did not come easy even after all the years of drafting behind me but I persevered and have accomplished my goal. I have found the “passion” and I just love it. Painting is one of the most distinctive, attractive and gratifying forms of art.

The contrasts between the different mediums are sometimes subtle, sometimes bold and striking. My pieces are diversified. I began my art with watercolor and went on to the other mediums to test the contrast of the layered colors and what I could get from them. I like to do portraits in Pastel so that I can produce the texture and coloring of the various skin tones. Although oil takes long to dry it produces such fine blending. I sometimes will work on 2 pieces at a time so one can dry a little before continuing on it.

Pen and Ink pieces are also enjoyable to do because this medium allows me to “get lost” in the piece as I place the dots to form the picture. I do enjoy using all the mediums and hope that my personality comes through in each piece I do.
